Lesung "Mutterschaft und Wissenschaft" am 18.03.2021

Superheroines at the limit

Digital reading from "Mutterschaft und Wissenschaft. Die (Un-)Vereinbarkeit von Mutterbild und wissenschaftlicher Tätigkeit" ("Motherhood and science. The (in)compatibility of motherhood and academic work") with the editors and authors Sarah Czerney, Lena Eckert, Silke Martin, Louisa Kamrath, Anne Lequy and Christiane Lewe.

On the occasion of the 31st Brandenburg women's weeks, the equal opportunities office of the FHP organised a reading on "Women Scientists at the Limit" in cooperation with the university library on 18/03/2021.

At that time, there was already evidence that in the first year of the corona pandemic, scientists had published more than average, while publications by (maternal) female scientists had declined sharply. The reading was followed by a lively discussion with the audience about the tension between motherhood and science.

"Mutterschaft und Wissenschaft", and also the "sequel" "Mutterschaft und Wissenschaft in der Pandemie: (Un-)Vereinbarkeit zwischen Kindern, Care und Krise", published in 2022, can be found in our library catalogue.

Plakat Picture a Scientist

To go or to stay?

Film evening "Picture a Scientist - Women of Science" at the Filmmuseum Potsdam

followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Anna Fruhstorfer (University of Potsdam, political science), Prof. Dr. Ursula von Keitz (Babelsberg Film University, film research and film education) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Petra Wenisch (University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, mathematics and construction informatics), moderated by Christina Wolff (central equal opportunities commissioner of the University of Potsdam).

On the occasion of the 32nd Brandenburg women's weeks, the equal opportunities offices of the FHP and the Babelsberg Film University organised a film evening together with the coordination office for equal opportunities at the University of Potsdam and in cooperation with the Filmmuseum Potsdam on 10 March 2022.

In keeping with the motto "To go or to stay?", the American film "Picure a Scientist" by Sharon Shattuck and Ian Cheney focuses on the hurdles and strategies of women researchers on their career path. In the process, a female biologist, a female chemist and a female geologist share their academic careers and show the struggle for recognition, respect and equality that is setting a worldwide discourse of change in motion.

In the panel discussion that followed, the three female scientists from Potsdam spoke about the film and their own experiences.

Plakat Ta Farda

But not with us

Film evening "Ta farda - until tomorrow" at Filmmuseum Potsdam

followed by a film discussion with Anahita Safarnejad (Kollektiv Feminista Berlin) and Sanaz Azimipour (Women* Life Freedom Collective Berlin), moderated by Susanne Foidl (equal opportunities commisssioner at Babelsberg Film University).

On the occasion of the 33rd Brandenburg women's weeks, the equal opportunities offices of the FHP and the Babelsberg Film University organised a film evening together with the coordination office for equal opportunities at the University of Potsdam and in cooperation with the Filmmuseum Potsdam on 15 March 2023.

The feature film "Ta farda - until tomorrow" by Ali Asgari (Iran/France/Qatar) shows the reality of life of a young mother in Tehran whose parents are not allowed to know about her illegitimate child. The film exposes the patriarchal structures in Iran and points to omnipresent power imbalances and universal sexism.

In the subsequent film discussion, young Iranian women reflected on the film and their own experiences.

10 years of the gender prize

The prize is awarded once a year in November and recognises final theses or projects by students who contribute to social and academic discourse on gender issues in their discipline with great commitment and sensitivity. The nomination is made by lecturers at the FH Potsdam. The Equal Opportunities Council of the UAS Potsdam acts as the selection committee.
On the 10th anniversary of the Gender Award in 2021, a poster exhibition about the previous award winners was created, which has been expanded every year since.

Männliches und weibliches Symbol ineinander verhakt

Action day #4genderstudies

The science and action day #4genderstudies is an initiative in German-speaking countries against attacks on gender studies and gender researchers and stands up for freedom in science, research and teaching. Since 2017, the relevance and diversity of gender studies has been highlighted every year on 18 december through digital and analogue actions. Every year in december, students, teachers and gender equality representatives of Potsdam's universities – the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, the University of Potsdam and the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf – call for different actions to participate in #4genderstudies Day.
