Ob rechtliche Rahmenbedingungen, Organisationsentwicklung, Finanzierung oder Öffentlichkeitsarbeit – das berufsbegleitende Masterstudium Sozialmanagement bereitet Sie optimal auf eine leitende Position in einer sozialen Einrichtung vor.

Die Schwerpunkte des Masters Sozialmanagement liegen in den Bereichen Management und Leadership. Dabei geht es besonders um die Steuerung und Organisation von sozialen Einrichtungen sowie um die Unternehmenskultur. Sie setzen sich mit Grundfragen der Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften auseinander und reflektieren die soziale Arbeit im gesellschaftlichen Kontext. In einem Praxisforschungsprojekt werden Sie Ihre eigenen Erfahrungen mit wissenschaftlichem Erkenntnisinteresse verbinden und Ihr erlerntes Wissen anwenden.

The Master of Social Management is a part-time program of six semesters and concludes with a Master of Arts degree.

Where do you study?
The attendance weekends take place at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. It is one of the smaller and exclusive universities, which is characterized by its excellent lecturers, its familiar atmosphere, its beautiful campus and the good accessibility.

Study contents

Knowledge transfer in the Social Management degree program takes place in a blended learning format. Here, e-learning courses are combined with face-to-face sessions to offer you great flexibility in organizing your daily study routine.

The face-to-face events primarily serve as an introduction to the topics, reflection, exercises and exchange among each other. As a rule, attendance events take place once a month, spread over two to three days. In between the classroom sessions, you work independently and are supported by an online learning platform and supervised by teachers.

Modul 1: Führen & Leiten kompakt

Das Modul gibt einen systematischen Überblick über wissenschaftliche Grundlagen, Konzepte und Diskursperspektiven zu Führung und Personalmanagement in sozialen Einrichtungen.

Modul 2: Organisationsentwicklung & Finanzierung kompakt

Das Modul gibt einen systematischen Überblick über wissenschaftliche Grundlagen, Konzepte und Diskursperspektiven der Organisationsentwicklung von der Konzeptentwick­lung über das Marketing bis zur Finanzplanung in sozialen Einrichtungen.

Modul 3: Sozialpolitik, Soziale Arbeit & Sozialmanagement

Das Modul beschäftigt sich mit Grundfragen der Sozialpolitik und des Sozialmanagements im Hinblick auf die Spezifika Sozialer Arbeit. Es stellt die Frage, inwieweit Sozialmanagement einen Beitrag zu einer wirkungsorientierten Sozialen Arbeit leisten kann oder ob es sich hierbei nicht eher um einen Rationalitätsmythos handelt?

Modul 4: Vertiefung Führen & Leiten

Das Modul vertieft den Blick auf Instrumente und Spezifika der Personalentwicklung in sozialen Ein­richtungen. Die Motivation, einen sozialen Beruf zu ergreifen und eine Führungsrolle einzunehmen, wird diskutiert, der eigene Führungsstil wird reflektiert. Konkrete Führungssituationen werden be­handelt. Dabei spielt die Gesprächsführung im Kontext von Mitarbeitendengesprächen und in Ver­handlungen eine wichtige Rolle.

Modul 5: Vertiefung Organisationsentwicklung

Gesundheitsmanagement sowie Gender- und Diversitymanagement werden in einem modernen Per­sonalmanagement nicht mehr nur normativ (oder moralisch), sondern auch ökonomisch begründet. Das Modul behandelt jeweils Hintergrund, Ziele, Instrumente und Wirkungen dieser Konzepte moder­ner Führung.

Modul 6: Finanzpolitik

Organisationsentwicklung geht in der Regel mit Veränderungsprozessen einher, die Widerstände und Konflikte entstehen lassen. Das Modul setzt sich mit diesen Dynamiken auseinander und vermittelt Instrumente zur Erkennung und Bewältigung von Konflikten.

Modul 7: Recht

Die Kenntnis und das Verständnis finanzpolitischer und Controllinginstrumente sind Voraussetzung für erfolgreiche Leitung. Das Modul vermittelt die wesentlichen Werk­zeuge und deren Anwendungsmög­lichkeiten im Kontext der Steuerung sozialer Einrich­tungen.

Modul 8

Neben der Sozialgesetzgebung spielen die Rechtsgebiete "Gemeinnützigkeit" und "Arbeitsrecht" für Einrichtungen und Organisationen im Bildungsbereich und der Sozia­len Arbeit eine besondere Rolle. Das Modul beschäftigt sich mit der aktuellen Geset­zeslage und deren Anwendung an Praxisbeispielen.

Application & Enrollment

Application & Enrollment

There is no separate application procedure for the Master of Social Management. Enrollment is always possible from December 15 to March 31 (every two years on even years) for the next summer semester.

For the Social Management program, the semester fee as well as fees amounting to 1,600 euros per semester are charged. Graduates of the FH Potsdam receive a reduction of 5 percent. The continuing education program is exempt from sales tax. Funding opportunities are available, for example, through the education premium.

If you meet the admission requirements, you can apply for enrollment. Please note the following information specific to the course of study:

Access requirements

For the admission-free master's degree program in Social Management, a first university degree qualifying for a profession in the scope of usually 210 ECTS credit points is required, on which the further education master's degree program builds in a meaningful way.

Also required, as a rule, is at least one year of professional activity in the field of social work or education after obtaining the first university degree, as well as a study-related activity of at least 15 hours per week in an institution/establishment with a constitutive social work or social education mission.

Enrollment Application

The enrollment application is submitted online in the MyCampus university portal of the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and must then be submitted in paper form together with the following documents:

  • University degree certificate(s)
  • Proof of practical work experience in the field of social work or education
  • Proof of a study-related activity in an institution/establishment with a constitutive social work or social education mission
  • For the submission of the documents, the day of the matriculation deadline (receipt by mail at the FH Potsdam) applies.

Additional coursework and examinations to be taken

After enrollment, the examination board of the Department of Social and Educational Sciences decides on the type and extent of additional study and examination credits to be taken in the case of a degree with less than 210 ECTS credits.
