BIEM

Brandenburg Institute for Start-ups and Medium-Sized Enterprises

(BIEM - Brandenburgisches Institut für Existenzgründung und Mittelstandförderung)

The Klaus Krone Endowment Professorship

The principal aim of the BIEM (see above) is to encourage and support entrepreneurial ideas and trade through making these primary focuses of the teaching and research at universities and colleges of further education in Brandenburg.
Along with ›partners from the worlds of business, science and politics, the BIEM mobilises potential for innovation, creates a strong foundation for development within the region and assists in creating networks between those involved.

Prof. Dr Carsten Becker has held the Klaus Krone Endowment Professorship for Innovative Supply of Services and Technologically Oriented Start ups at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam since April 2002. He is also the director of the BIEM.

In its ›teachings, the BIEM adopts an interdisciplinary approach, one that communicates to students from different faculties the foundations of economics and business studies as well as the skills involved in managing a start-up. In addition, it also helps to develop social and communicative skills, via extra-curricular activities. In this way, the University of Applied Sciences aims to give its students the best possible preparation for the business world they will later be a part of and to motivate them to take control of their own careers.
