Studying towards the Diplom normally takes 8 semesters. These studies are divided up into a Grundstudium (introductory study period), which ends upon the passing of the Vordiplom exam (intermediate or pre-degree exam), and the Hauptstudium (main study period). Successful completion of this period of study leads to the award of the Diplom.
The standard period of study for Bachelors degree courses is 6-7 semesters. Masters courses normally last from 3- 4 semesters. Work placements of differing lengths (depending on the course of study being followed) are integrated into one’s studies.
